How I discovered Face serums
I started using face serums in high school. At the time I had horrible acne that made me extremely self conscious and that's when I started doing hours of research on different products I could use to treat my skin. Looking back, that's when my fascination with skin care began!
After months of feeling like absolute crap about myself, I got fed up and went to see a dermatologist. That's when I realized my acne was hormonal. According to my doctor, one of the only ways to treat my symptoms immediately were to use harsh, chemical-filled products that could've potentially damaged my skin in the long run. That's the last thing I wanted, so I turned to serums that contained natural acne fighting ingredients. Finding one that worked for me was a game of trial and error, but I ended up finding two or three that actually soothed and healed my skin. More importantly, having acne-free clear skin brought back my confidence again and I was able to walk through the hallways of my high school without feeling self conscious.
What are Face serums?
Simply put, serums are concentrated vitamins that you apply on your skin. Each serum targets a different concern such as acne, brightening or anti-aging for example, and can be used once or twice a day depending on the ingredients and what's recommended by the brand.
How do you use them?
Face serums are made up of tiny, highly concentrated molecules that are absorbed into your skin. To ensure the absorption process is most effective, always apply your face serum AFTER you cleanse and BEFORE you moisturize. That way the serum is absorbed fully and your skin is able to use the ingredients to their full potential.
Over the years I've come across some incredible serums but my current favourite is the Aknari serum by MUN ($95). The ingredients are pure, which is always a bonus, bust most importantly I love how it makes my skin feel. This is thanks to prickly pear seed oil and organ oil that smoothes the skin, lightens dark spots (if you have them) and also helps repair sun damage. Throughout the summer months, this is key! In addition, it also soothes inflammation, brightens and stimulates collagen production. If you're on the hunt for a serum that basically does everything in one, I highly recommend this one by MUN. But just in case you're looking for different options I linked a bunch of other serums below that I love!
Are serums part of your daily skin care regimen? If so, let me know which ones you love in the comment section below.
