I like to call 2016 the year of preparation and 2017 my year to kill it! Not only because I'm graduating in April, but also because I want to push myself when it comes to the content I create and hopefully become somewhat of a full-time blogger.
Why am I telling you all of this? Because graduating with a degree in public relations and chasing my dreams of becoming a full-time blogger are two things I've been working towards for the past three to four years. Of course it's been a long time coming, and working towards these goals hasn't been easy, but I can definitely say that I've learned a hell of a lot about setting goals for myself, chasing my dreams and working towards these goals. With that said, here is a list of things I've learned that will hopefully help you achieve your goals in 2017...
Set short-term and long-term goals...That are achievable!
Having a vision in mind of what you want your future to be like is extremely important. However setting short-term goals for yourself that lead up to your end goal helps keep you motivated and gratified. Most importantly, set goals that are achievable people! As I'm sure you know, the sky is the limit and being imaginative is great and all, but try not to be unrealistic. Set major milestones like becoming a millionaire for example (LOL) as long-term visions and keep your short-term goals realistic.
Dream big, but work hard.
I'll admit, I'm a bit of a dreamer. I wonder what it would be like to travel the world and live in some of my favourite bloggers shoes. I also dream about creating a life for myself where doing what I love everyday could become a career. This also includes travelling and on a more materialistic note, enables me to buy mountains of bags, accessories and clothing with my hard earned money! That being said, dreaming big is important, but what's most important is that you work hard in order to be able to achieve your dreams and goals. Don't dream of becoming a doctor for example if you're going to sit around and do nothing about it. Instead, dream big but take necessary steps to achieve those dreams!
If it doesn't happen, that's ok!
This point is key. If you don't end up achieving your goals, it's ok. Learn from the mistakes you make and use these times to rise above (is this a Real Housewives quote?...LOL)! Ultimately, failure to achieve your dreams and goals shouldn't be a downfall, it should be a reason to learn from your mistakes in order to be a better person and perhaps even achieve your dreams and goals in the future. This is something my parents have been telling me since I was in elementary school and clearly it stuck with me!
Surround yourself with like-minded individuals.
Being around friends, family or loved ones that are like-minded is one of the best ways to keep yourself motivated. Last summer I met a handful of people (you know who you are), that constantly motivate and inspire me. They don't discourage or question why I do what I do, and are always there to keep me in check. The very first time I realized this was when I met my BFF Nathalie, who's also a fashion, beauty & lifestyle blogger (make sure you check out her site!). We clicked instantly when I attended one of her events a few years ago and we've been good friends ever since! Not only have I learned a shit ton from her about blogging and life in general, but she motivates me to keep everything that I've listed above in mind.
