A Beginner's Guide to Makeup for Men
I’ve been using makeup products for years, and although this may be a surprise to many of you it has always been a fundamental party of my daily grooming routine. Not only do makeup products make me FEEL good but let’s face it, they also keep my skin in check and help hide nasty dark circles and the odd pimple.
As conversations surrounding men’s grooming and beauty continue to snowball, especially with huge brands like Chanel releasing their new BOY DE CHANEL line, I thought it would be fun to a post a beginner’s guide to makeup for men using three easy steps I follow on a daily basis.
Step 1: Apply tinted moisturizer
Currently I’m loving the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer - Oil Free. It’s incredibly lightweight, blends into the skin beautifully and helps control oil if you have acne or blemish prone skin. Although this product is marketed as a foundation, it has a very natural finish that evens out my skin tone and gives me a natural glow
Tip: Don’t be afraid to stop by your nearest Laura Mercier counter and get colour matched by a sales associate. The secret to my natural “no makeup” look is applying products that blend well and match your skin tone perfectly.
Step 2: Apply brow GEL
If there’s one makeup product that I couldn’t live without, it’s this one. After I apply tinted moisturizer, I always use the Tom Ford Brow Gel Comb. This product is AMAZING because it defines your brows, keeps them in place all day long and adds a hint of colour to fill in any gaps where your hair isn’t as thick/full.
Tip: It’s very important that you apply this after your tinted moisturizer. It has a gel-like consistency and needs a minute or two to dry. If you apply it before your tinted moisturizer the product may smudge during the application process.
Step 3: Apply Concealer
Tom Ford concealer has been my go-to product since I first started applying makeup on my skin. The formula is creamy and it blends extremely well, resulting in a super natural look. The particular product I use is the Tom Ford Concealer Pen in the shade natural or natural beige.
Tip: Sales associated may encourage you to opt with a shade or two lighter than your natural skin tone. This will give your skin an obvious differentiation in colour/tone. Try and opt with a shade that is closest to your skin tone to ensure the finish is flawless and natural.
